Cloud Sustainability

Second creative day for Project Roll Cloud yesterday in Turin.

The second “creative day” marked the end of the third edition of Project Roll Cloud – Working in the Cloud, an innovative course that introduces secondary school students in Piedmont to the cloud and professions of the future. This year, the project has involved ca. 3000 students. Promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS, as part of Opening Future, a joint project developed by Google Cloud, Intesa Sanpaolo, and TIM Enterprise, dedicated to the development of digital skills.

The second creative day, which was held in Turin’s Area X, featured the participation of 62 students (from the following schools:  Umberto I - Alba (Cuneo), Cillario-Ferrero - Alba (Cuneo), J.C. Maxwell - Nichelino (Turin), Fermi - Galilei - Ciriè (Turin), Liceo Artistico Felice Casorati - Romagnano Sesia (Novara) with 12 professors and 6 company experts. Divided into 4-5 person teams, the students worked on the sustainability challenge. The task was to envisage a cloud service that would contribute to solving a specific problem or generate a significant impact on given cases for each group [See news on first creative day: Always Keep Your Head in the Cloud!].

At the plenary conference, Elisabetta Gramatica, who coordinates the project, asked for one word to describe this educational experience. “Enthusiasm!” replied Prof. Sabrina Cadez from the Liceo artistico Casorati. For the students, it was a truly exciting day and I always have fun with them! One never gets bored”. Davide Costamagna, a professor at the Liceo Umberto I, chose the term “methodology.” “ Meetings such as these are an opportunity for experimenting new work methodologies, to put into practice all the soft skills that have become indispensable, like public speaking and teamwork.

“Projects like Roll Cloud help to bring together technical and soft skills, a winning combination that helps students to understand attitudes, interests, and sensibilities that, unstimulated, may remain unconscious,” explains Elisabetta.
