Enjoying the City

Enjoying the City

A thirty-hour course on 3D printing, laser cutting, and making.

Training activities begin today for asylum seekers and refugees (adults, minors, and new adults) residing in the Municipality of Rome and with a good knowledge of the Italian language. The activities are part of Project Living the City Efficiently (“8X1000” state funding) with the Federation of Evangelical ChurchesActionAid, and the Fondazione Adecco for Equal Opportunities.

The project aims to develop social, professional and housing empowerment courses for asylum seekers and refugees who are leaving the reception circuit or who have already begun their activation process towards a phase of semi-independence. Participants will participate in courses on social and professional empowerment, training and guidance on the working world. In addition to the professional empowerment courses, participatory co-planning and team-building courses will also be organised. The courses, in which participants will work together with other subjects belonging to the destination community, will increase the bridging social capital of participants (into heterogeneous and therefore highly inclusive social networks), facilitate relationships between residents, and provide knowledge (and a sense of belonging) on their urban destination.

The courses on digital manufacturing last 30 hours and will be held at the fab lab of the Innovation Gym. Ten migrants from different CPIAs, SAI centres and shelters will participate. The coaches are:

Dates: May 23, May 25, May 28, May 30, June 6, June 8, June 17, June 19, June 21. Sempre from 10:00 to 13:00.

The course provides a comprehensive, practical experience in digital design and production. Hands-on lessons and guided workshops help participants develop their skills in laser cutting, 3D printing, and cutting plotters to transform ideas into tangible prototypes.

The second course on IT skills, which also lasts 30 hours, will begin next week. The coaches are Marco Brocchieri and Lara Forgione. The sessions will be held from 10:00 to 13:00.

Dates: May 29, May 31, June 3, June 5, June 7, June 10, June 12, June 14, June 17, June 19.

A complete overview of the essential skills necessary to experience the digital world safely and effectively. A series of interactive modules and hands-on exercises will allow participants to become familiar with fundamental hardware and software concepts, learn to manage files, folders, and applications on mobile devices and computers, and discover the basics of Internet browsing and social media networks.
