The inauguration is scheduled for September; in the meantime, the faculty is studying digital manufacturing
In the article entitled Schools Excel when Teachers Excel, that was published on Internazionale (July 19, 2016), Tullio De Mauro reminded us that in order to "understand school or change it, one must take into account its essential components: those who are studying, those who teach, and those who are concerned with improving the interactions between the first two.”
For over twenty years, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale we have been committed to providing teachers with additional and innovative tools to improve the interaction underlined by De Mauro.
We also do it with Smart & Heart Rome, a project promoted with the support of the Digital Transformation Department of the Rome Council which from September will see us active in a new area: Corviale (Municipio XI) where we will work together with those who are studying, those who teach, and those who are part of the local community.
In the meantime, we are involving teachers at the Istituto comprensivo Fratelli Cervi, the school directed by Marco Di Maro, in two laboratory days at the new Innovation Gym.
"Together we will explore the potential of the Gym’s environments, opportunities for experiential learning, and the importance of innovative teaching as an inclusive teaching strategy," explains Giovanna Cipolla, who coordinates the project. "If, as Eraldo Affinati says, 'the teacher is the dealer of youth and the craftsman of time' we can't wait to provide new cards and new tools to this group of curious and enthusiastic teachers," she added.
TEACHERS’ REACTIONS
We strongly believe that this type of laboratory session can open up new scenarios on innovative and highly inclusive teaching methodologies, also contributing to improve the relation with the local community. We are very curious about learning new strategies to reach out to all children and broaden their learning experience.
I have been at this school since 1990. In the Corviale area, we have seen many generations grow up and become parents. This project really seems to provide an opportunity to crown a truly interesting, beautiful activity, which is open to the local community, to give a further boost to our school with full collaboration of the community and to create an educational network of great value.
I feel a bit like one of my pupils, one of my children, perhaps I'm even more amazed, because it's truly a new experience for us. It’s a great day. I'm intrigued and have the opportunity to experiment. I'm learning so much and I'm also excited to know that my students will be able to experience all of this.
This day is very important because it gives us the opportunity to experiment and learn new teaching methods. I Think of my pupils and believe they will be enthusiastic about working in this way, combining the possibility of designing and acting. We will work together and learn together. This will greatly help our relationship and also the self-esteem of our kids.
