Antonella Barina reports on Project “I Had an Idea!” on Repubblica’s “Il Venerdì” magazine.
How does one measure the impact of a seemingly endless project? It’s the case of I Had an Idea!, coordinated by Project Manager Mila Spicola.
In January, we presented photo stories developed by students in Naples [see news: Real Coffee? Only in Naples! e Alpha Males and Gender Violence] and the business ideas of young women in [see news: Learning is Fun]. Now, on Repubblica’s “Il Venerdì” magazine journalist Antonella Barina reports the project has even reached libraries with the boon entitled Le ragazze ce la fanno (Women Can Do It, Il Castoro, 144 pages, 14 euro). “Three adventures that the publishing house proposes as graphic novels and has printed in 40,000 copies to be distributed for free in 11 high schools in Naples and Palermo, privileging the most problematic schools with the highest drop-out rates. The aim was to present positive models for young women to identify with and also allow the young men to learn about highly respected women.”
“The project was developed by Room to Read, an international association that promotes education and quality work for women, with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, who has been working for many years with these 11 schools to promote technology, a precious social accelerator. Now, “Il Castoro” has published the three graphic novels: Women Can Do It by Assia Petricelli, Carmen Guasco, Alessia De Sio, Ornella Greco, and Arianna Melone. And the results are excellent. Today’s teenagers have problems describing themselves, explain the organisers. It is easier for them to identify with external models in which they recognise their own traits.”
“I Had an Idea!” is promoted by Room to Read (an American NGO active in the empowerment of young women and girls) with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, FEdUF, and L’Altra Napoli.
