RomeCup 2024: Synergies with European Projects

Projects Trust aWare, Joinclusion, 2030 Youth Vision, and SciCo+

A multi-event dedicated to the innovation ecosystem, which since 2007 has brought young men and women closer to studies and careers in STEM fields and has promoted skills and professional profiles related to robotics and artificial intelligence. This is the RomeCup, organized by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the GEDI publishing group and Italian Tech, and promoted in collaboration with the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Scientists, scholars, educators, public decision-makers, and managers will address the ethical challenges posed by the "great technological acceleration" to promote sustainable and inclusive development for the well-being of man and the planet.

There also are important synergies for European projects in which the Fondazione Mondo Digitale is participating in the partnership. Three are implemented under the European Erasmus+ programme, while one is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 research programme.

How safe and reliable are our interactions with robots possessing artificial intelligence? How do we imagine living with robots and virtual assistants in our homes? Trust aWare (Horizon 2020) addresses issues related to on-line security, providing tools that can be used by citizens, to protect their freedom, security, and privacy, and increase trust in secure software. The project is financed by the European Commission and involves seven countries: Italy, Spain, Romania, France, Ireland, Czech Republic, Finland.

Artificial intelligence and robotics for social interaction and education are among the service applications that are registering the greatest interest due to their inclusive potential. JOINclusion (Erasmus+ programme) promotes the social inclusion of students aged 7-12 through playful learning strategies based on cognitive perspective taking. At RomeCup, pre-adolescents and educators will experiment with the game-based application enhanced by machine learning techniques to custom tailor and improve the user experience and optimize its efficiency as an educational tool.

RomeCup is also an extraordinary scientific communications laboratory where participants can expeirence high-tech innovation processes in the showcase area. We will tell you about it in the next issue of the SciCo+ High Professional Skills for Advanced Science Communication (Erasmus+ Programme). With the Sci-Co+ partnership, we work on of digital transition and scientific communication through a systemic approach to develop an advanced model of scientific communication, new specialized professional roles, and new skills for sector operators.

According to IFR experts, robots will contribute in several ways to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. How? The young protagonists of 2030 Youth Vision (Erasmus+) will experience it at RomeCup 2024. The project promotes the active participation of young men and women, aged 16 to 29, to influence local policies in the context of the SDGs and address the most relevant challenges for their future. Young people from the cities involved are trained, participate in local labs, participate in international exchanges with their peers, and actively take part in the co-production of local policies.
