The awards ceremony ends the 17th edition of the multi-event on AI and robotics.
RomeCup 2024, the event developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and organised with the GEDI Publishing Group and Italian Tech and promoted in collaboration with the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” has come to an end with Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri presenting awards to the winners. Over 4000 participants, including over 3000 students; 109 teams competing in the robotic challenges with 23 teams in contests with universities; 35 organisations present in the showcase area with innovative prototypes developed by schools, companies, research centres, start-ups, and universities … These are the numbers of an event that focuses on technological innovation based on robotic solutions and AI for holistic sustainability, to face environmental, social, and economic challenges in an integrated manner, placing people at the centre.
“A country like ours must excel in the field of innovation to ensure collective growth. Robotics and artificial intelligence are precious allies for sustainability and inclusion, to make the world a better place, to support us in the challenges of administrating a community," commented the Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri. The Mayor presented awards to the winners of the 17th International City of Rome Robotics Trophy, the first SuperTeam Trophy (Rescue Line category), and the Robotic Arm Challenge, together with the Rector of the University of Rome Tor Vergata ,Nathan Lecialdi Ghiron, the President of Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, INAIL extraordinary commissioner Fabrizio D'Ascenzo, and Mirta Michilli and Alfonso Molina, respectively Director General and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
Yesterday evening, at the Capitoline Museums, the €20,000 prize for the second edition of the Most Promising Researcher in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS with the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome in collaboration with Italian Tech and the GEDI Group was presented to Mihai Dragusanu, 30, a researcher at the University of Siena (Department of Information Engineering and Mathematical Sciences) for a modular exoskeletal suit for upper limbs. Mihai’s solution exploits the force generated by Twisted-String-Actuators to activate the joints of the upper limbs. The award ceremony took place in the context of the "The Wonders of Artificial Intelligence" event hosted by journalist Riccardo Luna.
