RomeCup 2023: introducing the winning teams of the 16th edition.
Robotics means study, knowledge, skills, and effort, but also passion and fun. And a good example are the students and teachers from IIS Archimede in Catania, who in the photos taken at RomeCup 2023 are always smiling, happy to be participating, with the true spirit of the event.
Onelia Onorati interviewed Prof. Cristina Strano and two students from Team Archimedance after their performance in the On Stage category, where they placed second with a robotic band.
The day before, with Aurora Project, a system for marine water monitoring, they won the MareBot Contest, with Adriano Testa and Andrea Caltabiano, supported by researchers at the University of Catania. Adriano and Andrea designed and developed a sort of boa in eco-sustainable water-resistant material (poplar and plywood), capable of transmitting data via web in real time to the relevant authorities.
The stand in the showcase area presented “Pino the Robot,” a self-built automat with a light structure that can move fluidly. And Tony (acronym for Talent of the New Year) is equipped with a special 3D-printed cranium that allows it to exhibit facial expressions. The eyelid and jaw movements are very detailed and the motors driving them require extreme precision.
As soon as they returned to school, the students and professors found a beautiful “postcard” waiting for them from Headmaster Fortunata Daniela Vetri published on the school website.
