Research seminar as part of the ProPART master's programme at Sapienza University
On Friday 4 July, the Mondo Digitale Foundation will host the seminar “Urban Intelligences”, a new stage in the research project launched with the ProPART Master's Programme at Sapienza University of Rome to investigate the complex relationships between new technologies and forms of territorial governance.
Building on the issues raised at the previous meeting (‘Platforms, proximity, participation’), the seminar will focus on the growing role of artificial intelligence in urban transformation processes and the risks of excluding citizens from increasingly automated decision-making systems. The focus is on the need to establish an alternative model based on urban intelligence: forms of collective intelligence rooted in local areas and supported by responsible, inclusive and transparent technologies.
After institutional greetings from Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, and Carlo Cellamare, coordinator of the ProPART Master's programme, the programme will open with the session “AI In-Between: smartification and participation”, introduced by Alfonso Molina, Scientific Director of the FMD, and coordinated by Stefano Simoncini of La Sapienza University. Speakers will include Chiara Certomà (Sapienza University of Rome), Federica Meta (Cor.Com), Antonio De Vito (Puglia Sviluppo), Gianni Dominici (Forum PA), Vincenzo Patruno (OnData), Luigi Corvo (Bicocca University) and Riccardo Corbucci (Roma Capitale).
Afterwards, participants will be involved in a co-design workshop for the territorialisation of the Manifesto for collective action on artificial intelligence and robotics, developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale as part of the RomeCup 2024. The aim is to build new principles and actions together, starting from listening to local experiences, with a particular focus on marginalised areas.
The seminar will conclude with a presentation of the working groups' findings and the launch of a shared reflection on the future of urban intelligence: systems that can connect participation, collective planning and technology with a view to sustainability, solidarity and territorial justice.
