Coding Girls: the results of the “creathon” at the University of Bari.
The creathon that was held yesterday at the “Aldo Moro” University of Bari marks the end of the Coding Girls tour that set out in March and organised events in Rome, Palermo, Salerno, Caserta, Gorizia, Milan, Turin, Termoli, and Orvieto.
For the first time, in Bari, the team works were evaluated by university students “who interrupted their lessons and listened to their peers, marvelling at their skill,” explains Cecilia Stajano, Community Coordinator at the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and for ten years the soul of the programme fighting the gender gap, which helps the new generations to freely choose their future.
“The tenth edition taught us to aim high, to increasingly high-quality partners, to look far into the future, also paying attention to long-term results, and at the same time to closely observe, listen to the stories, discover the talents, and live the communities,” continues Cecilia. “I have met many talented young people who, if supported, have the passion and determination to remain in our country to improve it.”
And here are the results of the data science challenge that involved students from the Liceo Gaetano Salvemini in Bari, coordinated by the Mathematics Professors Giuditta Occhiogrosso and Samuela Labate.

Our project on cancer mortality in Italy is a research initiative aimed at better understanding the trends, causes, and variables associated with cancer deaths in the country. The project is essential to develop prevention strategies, early diagnoses, and more effective treatments. The objectives we set ourselves were to analyse mortality trends and identify risk factors and evaluate regional disparities, using epidemiological data from tumour registers, Istat and other national sources. Furthermore, at the end of the research project, we created a detailed map of cancer mortality in Italy, highlighting the most affected areas and the main risk factors associated with different types of cancer.

“The Challenge of Waste Management: Towards a Sustainable Future” - Team EcoMinds
Team: Francesco Maria (17, Class 3E), Michele (16, Class 3B), Raffaele (16, Class 3B), Andrea (16, Class 3F).
In an era in which environmental awareness is essential to our future, it is crucial to carefully examine related issues, consider the actions necessary to mitigate damage to the environment, and promote sustainable development. Waste management represents one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time, influencing not only the quality of the environment, but also public health and the economy. With this project, we will analyze indicators that provide a general picture of the environmental situation in Italy in 2022.

“Analysis of Fair and Sustainable Wellbeing Indicators for Security” - Team Safety
Team: Edoardo Loprieno, Sebastiano Pappagallo, Simone Patruno, and Davide Gennarino, Class 3L.
Citizen safety is a very important issue for individual and collective well-being. A population's sense of fear and unease due to the fear of suffering criminal acts can greatly influence the personal freedoms of individuals, quality of life, and the economic development of local communities, a significant factor for personal freedom, quality of life, and local economic development.
Cecilia's story ends with a personal note: “in Bari, I learned to read and write thanks to my first-grade teacher Pasquita Belviso, who inspired me to pursue knowledge. And it is exciting to find this passion in so many teachers, in young university tutors, and in coaches who discover, thanks to Coding Girls, how fascinating it can be to follow a person's growth and introduce them to the pursuit of knowledge.”
