The “Piazza della Resistenza” team at RoboCup with two new robots.
The students' robotic achievements fill school communities with satisfaction and pride. Real-time updates are generally found on social channels as in the case of the Facebook page of the Piazza della Resistenza School in Monterotondo, in the Province of Rome.
Team “Let it Beep” returned victorious from the European championships and is now involved in the global RoboCup Challenge, from July 17 to 21 in Eindhoven. The team is composed by Robert Boubreaz, Lorenzo Ederli and Roberto Zanni accompanied by their mentor Giampaolo Pucci [see news: RoboCup Opens Today in Eindhoven].
The three students are competing in the Soccer Open category which involves larger robots, equipped with a more sophisticated computer vision. Indeed, they play with an orange golf ball that does not emit infrared light like in the other category. This requires a greater detection potential, shifting the focus from mechanics to software.
The two robots on the field are making their debut at the World Cup, as they were entirely built, programmed, and trained for RoboCup.

GIAMPAOLO PUCCI The History of Roman Robotics
From Alfonso H. Molina and Ilaria Falcetta’s L’innovazione nelle scuole del Comune di Roma (2007)
“The Robotics project started at the Pacinotti School, based on an idea that Professor Giampaolo Pucci then also applied at the “Piazza della Resistenza” Technical School in Monterotondo. Professor Paolo Torda, linked to Professor Falcioni and Professor Pucci by a common passion for educational research and studies, involved the Von Neumann Institute in the project. The “Piazza della Resistenza” Technical Institute in Monterotondo won RoboCup Junior, the international competition for primary and secondary schools, which in 2005 took place in Osaka, Japan, and in 2006 was held in Bremen, Germany, with the participation of the Von Neumann Institutes and “Piazza della Resistenza” from Monterotondo. The Pacinotti Institute was absent due to lack of funding. Currently, Giampaolo Pucci and Paolo Torda are national representatives, respectively, of the teams and the technical commission of the European championships (RoboCup European Open), which this year were held in April in Eindhoven in the Netherlands with the participation of all three schools and the 'Leonardo da Vinci Institute of Grosseto.” (Personal conversation with Giampaolo Pucci, May 3, 2006, Rome)
