Robotics and AI at the service of human development and social justice
From 7 to 9 May, Rome will host the 18th edition of RomeCup, the major training event dedicated to innovation in artificial intelligence, robotics and other emerging technologies, with a focus on guidance and innovative educational methodologies. Over 4,000 participants, including students, teachers, researchers, companies and institutions, will meet between Roma Tre University and the Campidoglio for three days of conferences, competitions, contests, talks and workshops dedicated to the future of education, technology and work.
The theme chosen for the 18th edition, "What's next? Human and artificial intelligence. The challenges for holistic well-being", focuses on the convergence between emerging technologies and integral human development, with an ethical and inclusive perspective. The inaugural conference, which reflects on the techno-human condition evoked by Pope Francis, is part of the cultural programme of the Jubilee 2025.
An innovation community in action
Over 100 teams are participating in the international robotics competitions, while 27 mixed school-university teams are competing in the creative contests. The programme includes 31 talks with scientists, academics and managers, and an exhibition space with 35 organisations including start-ups, research centres, universities and companies, presenting prototypes and cutting-edge solutions.
Among the innovations on display:
- Drops, a system for monitoring road works with AI and wearable devices (Roma Tre University)
- BlurM3Not, an interactive experience to make young people aware of digital risks (CNR)
- Health Bot, solutions for mental health and school well-being (Fattore J project)
- ArcheoVerso, an immersive augmented reality journey through inaccessible archaeological sites (Sapienza)
- Realter, InSegno, AntiFog and SoBu, prototypes for the inclusion of people with disabilities (Italian Institute of Technology)
Awards, posters and new challenges
The ‘Most Promising Researcher in Robotics and AI’ award is now in its third edition, with a cheque for 20,000 euros for the best emerging talent in research. The award ceremony is scheduled for the 8th of May, in the evocative Sala Esedra of the Capitoline Museums. On the same day, the commitment to ethical and inclusive technological transformation is renewed with ‘Fast Forward AI: from vision to action’, the meeting of the signatories of the Manifesto for collective action on AI and robotics.
AMONG THE EVENTS NOT TO BE MISSED
- Challenge between human creativity and AI with visual storytellers Nicolò Canova and Fernando Cobelo (as part of Roll Cloud)
- Ital.IA Lab, challenge between small and medium-sized enterprises on AI and digital transformation (Microsoft, Avanade, Unioncamere, Dintec)
