Prodigy: the Sicilian capital is among the cities involved in the European project
Palermo is also involved in the European Prodigy project, co-funded by the ESF+ Social Innovation+ programme, which offers free training in digital and green skills to promote the employment of young people aged between 15 and 29. Prodigy is an acronym for PROmoting Digital and Green Skills for Youth.
A region in need of new opportunities
According to Eurostat data, in 2024, 15.2% of young Italians (aged 15-29) will fall into the NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) category, a figure well above the European average (11%). Regional disparities remain significant: in southern Italy, the percentage is considerably higher, and in Palermo, almost four out of ten young people are NEET (39.8% according to Istat, 2020). These figures highlight a social emergency and confirm the need for targeted training and work inclusion programmes.
What PRODIGY offers
The programme is a genuine professional development pathway, divided into several stages:
- Free online training: basic and advanced courses on digital and green skills, with the opportunity to specialise as a Social Media Marketer, Data Analyst, Web Designer or Sustainability Manager.
- Personalised support: each participant is supported by a career coach to define their Educative Plan and prepare them for entering the job market.
- Contact with businesses: networking meetings and interviews with partner companies, to transform the skills acquired into concrete job opportunities.
- Recognised certifications: Esco and DigComp 2.2 digital badges, issued by Roma Tre University, which enrich the curriculum with qualifications that are valid at European level.
THE PARTNERSHIP
The project is promoted by an international consortium that brings together different experiences and skills: Fondazione L'Albero della Vita ETS (lead partner), Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS and Adecco Italia Spa, together with other European partners.
In Palermo, too, young people now have the opportunity to build a different future, leaving behind their state of inactivity and equipping themselves with concrete tools to enter the job market.
Registration is now open. To apply and find out all the details, fill in the online form on the project website: you will be contacted to start your journey.
