Staying. And making others stay

Job Digital Lab, when digital becomes a community choice

There is one word that runs through the entire story of Giusi Messina: staying. Staying in your own territory when everyone expects you to leave. Staying close to people and businesses when digital transformation seems like nothing more than a race for numbers. Staying human, even, and above all, behind a screen.

It is from this personal and professional trajectory that the new story published on the Job Digital Lab blog was born, which we are sharing today with the whole community, continuing to enrich the sixth edition of the training programme created with ING Italia. A story accompanied by the narrative gaze of Nicoletta Vulpetti, who has always been passionate about stories of identity and change.

Giusi recounts an almost secret beginning: at thirteen, she was creating websites for celebrities, without imagining that the screen would become her professional horizon. She tells of a Sicily that “you should leave”, a ticket to Los Angeles that was never used, a long journey of studies, international competitions and business plans. And then the turning point: a Google scholarship, a job at the Chamber of Commerce in Agrigento, the challenge of digitising the area she was about to leave.

The digitisation of the Valley of the Temples, launched globally, is one of those points that, as she says, only come together later. Today, Giusi coordinates the Digital Enterprise Point of the Chamber of Commerce of Palermo and Enna and supports businesses in the dual transition, digital and ecological. Her work is often online, measurable, made up of data and processes. But the real value lies in the people who manage to stay afloat, in the shutters that don't come down, in the communities that don't empty out.

Giusi was one of the trainers at Job Digital Lab, bringing this very vision: digital as a concrete lever, but also as an exercise in empathy. Because, as she says in her story, empathy is perhaps the only skill that machines cannot take away from us. And she trains herself: by listening, by being silent, by remembering that behind every screen there is a person.

The stories of Job Digital Lab are created with this goal in mind: to give a voice to the people who are the protagonists of real, personal and community change. Stories that do not celebrate technology itself, but its human and social impact on local areas and everyday lives.
