Notice for Schools

The Fondazione Mondo Digitale (FMD) will participate with schools in Operazione Risorgimento Digitale, the project promoted by TIM. The largest public service programme in Italy will organise a mobile school to teach citizens in all towns and cities with a functional and digital literacy course and help desks. True schools leave no one behind.

WHAT IS OPERATION DIGITAL RISORGIMENTO?

The opportunities provided by the digital revolution are immense. However, not all citizens have the competences necessary to participate and enjoy the new services. The challenge is to involve all those still excluded from the digital economy. “Operation Digital Risorgimento” is an ambitious national programme, promoted by TIM, to support the digitalisation process of the country and accelerate the acquisition of digital competences by Italian citizens. The Fondazione Mondo Digitale is a programme partner.

THE NUMBERS

The objective is to reach one million citizens by the end of 2020 through an educational tour in 107 Italian provinces with three mobile schools and a network of 400 TIM Coaches.

THE TOUR

In each of the 107 locations that will be reached throughout Italy, TIM will set up a mobile school on a truck in the main square – a digital help desk for citizens – where anyone can receive help on digital operations. The following week, schools will host free courses for all citizens, both in the mornings and afternoons.

COURSE CONTENT

Each course is based on 3 two-hour modules:

Module 1: Ready, Get Set, Internet!

Accessing the Web: all the information on the settings necessary to connect to the Internet, tools for navigating and search engines, instant messaging. Internet is communication: together we will learn about the main means of communication and interaction on-line, such as e-mail and social networks.

Internet at your service: from important services to entertainment with photos and videos. The main apps available for citizens.

Module 2: Cloud Services and the Internet of Things

How to keep a safe copy (backup) of your data: information on how to save photos, videos, documents, e-mails and contacts in the cloud (i.e., Google Drive).

Internet of Things (IoT): learn about the IoT and “intelligent” objects and how these can improve your life quality and make the world more sustainable (i.e., vocal assistants, smartwatches, smart cities).

Module 3: Digital and Aware Citizens

Being a digital citizen: in the digital society, citizens have acquired the right to on-line access and public administration services. The module will address digital identity (SPID), digital payments and on-line security. Avoiding the Dangers of the Internet: navigating safely, learning to recognise fake news, choosing wisely about your data privacy.

PARTICIPATE WITH YOUR SCHOOL

Second-degree secondary schools in the towns reached by the tour can become candidates to actively participate in the programme and join the Network of Knowledge Volunteers promoted by FMD. In “Operation Digital Risorgimento,” schools are not only a physical place where the courses take place, but also a true community hub that can forge synergies between citizens and local organisations and make the educational community a protagonist of the local transformation process. Students will work with TIM Coaches as knowledge volunteers, natural facilitators for learning processes. Thanks to the intergenerational learning model, the younger can teach their parents, grandparents and co-citizens to use the Internet, developing transversal competences and responsible citizenship.

WHAT SCHOOLS ARE DOING

In each participating town, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale will activate 24 six-hour courses (one 2-hour lesson a week for three weeks) for ca. 25-30 participants per course. Three to six schools will be selected, each of which have to organize eight courses. Courses will be held both in the morning and afternoons with students acting as facilitators for the TIM Coaches. All citizens and the entire educational community are invited to participate in the activities. Moreover, the students’ families will be involved, and alliances will be made with the main local institutions and organisations: from town councils to elder associations. Throughout the week in which the TIM mobile school will be parked in the main square, students in participating classes will rotate and work to raise awareness on the initiative. The objective is to get at 25 participants for each course held by a class of students. During the following three weeks, students will work with TIM Coaches (6 hours per class). During the last lesson, a diploma of “Internet Citizen” will be awarded to each participant.

All activities are valid for the TIM “Transversal Competences and Orientation” Programme (former School-Work Programme).
