With Job Digital Lab in Catania, digital technology is a driver of growth

On 3 July, from 3pm to 6pm, at the Chamber of Commerce of South-East Sicily, in Piazza della Borsa in Catania, a new stage of Job Digital Lab is scheduled, the programme promoted with ING Italia to accompany people, businesses and territories in the digital transformation.

The training session, organised in collaboration with Punto Impresa Digitale and the Comitato Imprenditoria Femminile (Women's Entrepreneurship Committee), is entitled Local businesses and crafts: digital technology as a driver of growth and is aimed at artisans, small business owners and freelancers. The aim is to provide concrete digital tools to strengthen their professional identity, improve work organisation and build an effective online presence.

In the first quarter of 2025, Sicily recorded a positive balance of 712 new businesses and over 4,400 new jobs. Catania ranks among the most dynamic provinces, with a net increase of 186 businesses. Innovation is also driving growth, but many small and medium-sized enterprises and craft businesses are still struggling to adopt advanced digital tools, slowing down the development of their potential [see Ansa news item Unioncamere, more businesses and jobs in Sicily in the first quarter].

During the meeting, Massimo Pascolo, Head of Business Banking Daily Banking & Savings at ING Italia, presented the results of the “People Insight Lab” survey, conducted in collaboration with YouGov, which explores the needs, expectations and critical issues of self-employment. Only one in three freelancers today recommends registering for VAT, but the desire for autonomy remains strong: 49% remain positive about the future.

The training course is divided into three distinct stages:

  • Telling your story to compete: storytelling as a lever to differentiate and communicate your business;
  • Three-step method: from vision to implementation of your digital strategy;
  • Operational toolkit: tools and applications you can use right away.

Testimonials from Kymia Srl, Alexandra Pellegrino and La Mediterranea enrich the day with concrete examples of digital transformation in the local context.

Since 2020, Job Digital Lab has trained over 31,000 people throughout Italy, with more than 170 sessions. The 2025 edition aims to reach 8,000 new people and involve 240,000 citizens with a comprehensive, free and accessible offer.
