Recruiting on social media: how to improve your professional image.

One of the main objectives of Project Skills for the Recovery, developed in collaboration with LinkedIn, is to strengthen skills related to the development of one’s professional image. Independently from one’s point in life, this ability is increasingly appreciated in the working world. Knowing how to present oneself on social media, how to present a well-organised profile with adequate information and an appropriate photo, is fundamental to human resources personnel.

Indeed, 51% of employers affirms they were negatively influenced during the selection process after viewing candidates’ profiles (according to a recent Adecco survey of 500 recruiters). And this phenomenon is growing; ten years ago, it only concerned 12% of employers. The interviewees declared that, after having received an interesting CV, they analyse the on-line presence of candidates from two points of view: professional experience (65%) and posts (47%).

It is therefore essential to be careful and aware of one’s social media profiles. And this is further confirmed by two participants in the last edition of LinkedIn – Skills for the RecoveryAlessandro, a university student, explained: "Thanks to these meetings and webinars, I was able to improve my LinkedIn profile and received better job proposals. Moreover, I learned to present myself more efficiently at interviews. And notwithstanding the fact that I’m still studying, I’m already receiving job offers.”

Valeria state: "Last April’s webinar was truly interesting for those, like me, who are looking for employment. Thanks to the advice of Coach Silvia Belleri, I now know how to optimise my LinkedIn profile, highlighting my skills and experience."
