Learning to Learn with Smile

Training to find employment between 34 and 50.

It’s a free training programme for the unemployed, aged 34-50, who require flexible and independent courses to strengthen or reinvent their curricula for employment in digital areas. SMILE, an acronym for “SMart Innovative Learning for Employment,” is a project reserved for residents of Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Piedmont, Lombardy, and Tuscany. The registration deadline is July 26.

Smile, which is promoted by the Politecnico di Milano (lead partner), Cisco SystemsFondazione Mondo Digitale ETS, IFOA, will provide 16 free on-line courses (120 hours each) to develop and strengthen digital skills, starting in September 2024.

Smile has adopted a new educational paradigm to support “learning to learn” skills. Besides a self-evaluation of one’s educational needs, it provides on-line content and open educational resources (OER). The Smart Learning Design™ Methodology developed by the Politecnico di Milano, which provides learning to be planned and oriented in a context characterised by multiple opportunities, allows participants to become part of a Smart Learning Community and be supported by tutors and experts during individual studying. There are ca. six hours of orientation and work support during which candidates will be able to search for employment and review their skills together with tutors. Smart Tracks, flexible and modular 40-hour courses, provide on-line training in 3 areas: life skills (stress management, empathy, critical thinking), basic digital skills (Microsoft365 to GenAI), and professional digital skills. The final phase is based on participant profiles and includes a choice of courses ranging from customer service to large, organised distribution and retail, graphic design, and social media marketing.
