The team that animated the Internet Corners at the Galleria Alberto Sordi in Piazza Colonna for the Social Media Week included over 50 knowledge volunteers from Roman schools. Students from four Roman schools (L. Caro, Falcone, Peano, Pirelli) manned the stand with the help of the Sani-Salvenini School from Latina.
Digital Angels are digital literacy tutors for the elderly that volunteer in schools throughout Italy and teach elders via the Grandparents on the Internet inter-generational learning model. The project has various off-shoots throughout the country. These include: Grandparents on the Internet, A Click for Togetherness, Telemouse, Nonni SUB Internet, etc.)
The Web Festival provided the students not only with the opportunity to work as knowledge volunteers outside of school (some of them already volunteer at Rome's elderly centres), but also to learn more about the elderly through interviews and informal chats, something that will certainly improve their didactic abilities.
The students at the Galleria Sordi received the visit of Francesco Santoro, the Mayor of Santa Margherita di Belice, in the Province of Agrigento (Sicily).
Soon even the grandparents “down south” will be able to navigate the web, helped by students in Sicilian schools, and discover the responsible and inclusive use of new technologies.
