RomeCup: an interview with Stefania Pigozzi (Ucimu)

The manufacturing world aims to meet the challenges related to AI and the growing automation and digitization of production systems. In this context, one of the most representative realities in this sector, UCIMU, will be at RomeCup 2023 (May 3-5). We have interviewed Stefania Pigozzi, Head of the Study Centre & Corporate Culture at Ucimu-Production Systems.

What is UCIMU?

It is the association of Italian machine, robot and automation manufacturers that was founded in 1945 and brings together 240 companies, representing 70 percent of the sector's “Made in Italy.” One of our goals is to make young people more aware of companies in the sector, and in the world of automation, production machinery, mechanics, and systems that are increasingly integrated and digital .

To drive this objective, in 1993, we established the UCIMU Foundation, a non-profit organization that operates as an institute for economic and scientific research, for cultural study, development, promotion and support of businesses Italian manufacturers of machine tools and production systems. The UCIMU Academy operates within it, as a container of initiatives dedicated to students at all levels to promote further knowledge of the sector and its many professional opportunities.

What are your expectations for RomeCup 2023?

We believe that RomeCup 2023 represents a happy synthesis and test bench for one of UCIMU's missions: to create a bridge with young men and women in training. Furthermore, this is a precious opportunity to closely observe innovators engaged in the study and development of new solutions and projects in applied robotics. It is our first time, and it will be useful for us to provide information on the world of machine tools. Also, in our sector we believe that there is great opportunity and a strong need to implement robotics and artificial intelligence systems.

You are very active in the trade fair system with "BI-MU," can you tell us about it?

It is the biennial event for machine tools, robotics, automation, digital and additive manufacturing, and is currently in its 34th edition. The next will take place on October 9-12, 2024, at the Fiera Milano Rho. Organized by Efim-Ente Fiere Italiane Macchine, BI-MU is the reference event for the sector in Italy and is also one of the most important at the international level.

Starting from the last edition (2022), BI-MU also organised an exhibition area, Robotheart, dedicated to the world of robotics applied to all the main manufacturing sectors. Thanks to the wide range on display - which included not only machines, but also automation, 4.0 digital solutions, additive manufacturing (i.e., 3D printing for metal) and robotics - the event is a point of reference for manufacturing operators looking for innovative solutions to their production processes.

The event's mission is not only commercial, but also to support sector development and innovation through discussions between scholars and researchers in an area dedicated to speeches, debates and the presentation of innovative solutions.
