Grandparents on the Internet at the Feltrinelli Technical industrial Institute in Milan

The Feltrinelli Technical industrial Institute in Milan, directed by Danilo Guido, will soon host a new edition of Grandparents on the Internet, the digital literacy programme that introduces elders to the web and modern communication technology.

The school website provides all necessary information on the course. Registration will remain open as long as places are available, participants who relinquish their place will be substituted. The course begins on January 17.

Grandparents on the Internet confirms the great attention that the Fondazione Mondo Digitaleplaces on social responsibility projects and its interest in providing equal access to new services. The initiative has a twofold objective: to promote an active life amongst senior citizens and promote the inclusion of citizens in the transition towards a digital economy,” explains the school website.

The courses are based on the intergenerational learning model and will be held in the computer lab of ITIS Feltrinelli in Milan with coordinating teachers Paolo Acunzo and Elisabetta Corbellari.

The programme is based on seven one-and-a-half-hours lessons. Citizen aged above 65 will be helped one on one by students (acting as teachers)who will share the skills necessary to use new technology with them. There will be two courses (registration required) and the maximum number of participants per course is 15-20 elders.

The project confirms “the winning contribution of youth in fighting the social and technological exclusion of over-65s in Italy.”

Lessons will address basic aspects of computers, programmes, and the Internet and focus on web-based services: access to information, healthcare services, e-payments, and e-commerce.

To help the young tutors in this exciting challenge, Eleonora Curatola has created a fun Logbook for the students.
