Smart & Heart Rome: Students in Class 4B at the Liceo Amaldi on their PCTO
Now that the school year has ended and all the stress is over, the students in Class 4B at the Liceo Edoardo Amaldi in Rome, who participated in the "A Sustainability Gym in Tor Bella Monaca” PCTO, have written to Project Coordinator Giovanna Cipolla “to share their impressions on the course that also led them to the RomeCup!”
“With the same spirit with which they participated in all the activities organised by Programme Smart & Heart Rome, they have provided us with a snapshot of their group and experience,” explains Giovanna.
The class group includes Giulia Ardelean, Christian Aurini, Lorenzo Cannavò, Federico Cassese, Robert Costin, Alfonso Maria Giorgini, Tommaso Mazzuca, Lorenzo Pasini, and Alessio Spitoni.
The title of their short but intense text with images is “When Curiosity and Commitment Support and Drive the Journey towards Knowledge.”
Here are their reflections on the second edition of the “A Sustainability Gym” PCTO held in Tor Bella Monaca (as a follow-up to the PCTO on environmental sustainability) and their experience at RomeCup 2023.
We certainly will remember the PCTO experience at school on the programming of drones and drone fleets. What we will remember and cherish the most, besides the content and competences that we acquired, will be the memories of the activities with Prof. Chiummariello and engineers Simone, Marco and Federico, who held the course.
This experience was not only useful to learn how to programme a controller or the autonomous flight of a drone, but it also taught us something more important: the ability to work in a team and compete by comparing ideas, listening, sharing, accepting suggestions and appreciating the work of others. In our opinion, this led us to create extraordinary projects in the best way possible.
Our group proved this during the development and presentation of the “Aratrum Rover,” showcased at RomeCup, which placed second in the creative contest. The group worked with an Arduino chipset under the supervision of Engineering Prof. Carnevale at the University of Rome, Tor Vergata.
In just one week, we collaborated like a real team to develop, first theoretically and then in practice, something that would have required many days of work by one person alone. We are all aware that the competences that we have learned will be useful not only at school, but also in our future studies and jobs.
The Liceo Edoardo Amaldi, directed by Maria Rosaria Autiero, hosts the first indoor drone flight field, developed by the school with Programme Smart & Heart Rome, funded by the Digital Transformation Department of the Rome Council.
