Pathway Companion: a platform to promote learning for children with special needs

Can generative artificial intelligence help fragile individuals, especially students in primary and lower secondary school with special educational needs? And those who take care of them? Can an advanced technological tool evolve, follow, and adapt to a child’s needs? And how can a device play a role in the process of inclusion?

These questions are answered by journalist Alessio Nisi on magazine Vita through an interview with Furio Gramatica, Innovation Development Director at the Fondazione don Gnocchi, and Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, who present Project Pathway Companion for children with special educational needs.

Project Pathway Companion in brief

Fondazione Mondo Digitale is working with Google to develop a learning platform based on artificial intelligence which, amongst its features, includes intelligent tutoring to support caregivers (teachers, support teachers, healthcare workers, social workers, and parents) and children and young adults with special educational needs in their educational career and a safe on-line life.

The title chosen for the project - Pathway Companion - evokes an accessible and attractive educational process thanks to an AI system that works as a constant peer and guide.

The Fondazione Don Gnocchi, a project partner, is the largest non-profit rehabilitation organisation in Italy. IT LogiX and University of Roma Tre, our technical partners, will follow the course of the entire project from development to testing and operator training, as well as project adaptation to other countries, starting with Spain and Portugal.
