Second stage of the ‘Game on!’ format with the Coding Girls
As already anticipated, on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 January, the delegation from theUniversity of Delaware (USA), which we met in Rome, will stop in the municipality of Sesto Fiorentino, located 9 km from Florence and part of the Florence-Prato-Pistoia metropolitan area. Originally agricultural and artisan, the area is now an industrial and manufacturing hub with the presence of multinationals and small and medium-sized enterprises. The scientific pole of the University of Florence makes the city a centre of excellence in research and innovation, with laboratories of international relevance.
Trying their hand at the Game on! format are the pupils of two classes of the comprehensive institute Sesto1 Falcone e Borsellino, attended by a school population diversified by a wide social range, with families of different socio-economic and cultural levels. Foreign students make up approximately 28% of the student population, with 8% requiring language support. Difficulties in the Italian language are managed through L2 literacy courses. The school, led by headmistress Rosa Gaimari, also welcomes students with special educational needs and certifications under Law 104/92, working to individualise teaching interventions.
With the new Game on! format, the school enriches the educational offer with an intensive two-day experience: a training session on the first day and a creathon on the second day. The 1st B and 1st C classes of the secondary school, as was already the case in Rome, engage in a creative challenge to develop an innovative project with Scratch on a theme that is revealed to them on the day.
The 43 pupils are coordinated by teachers Francesca Bruscoli, Rosa Milo and Enrica Droghetti. The trainers are Elena Busato and Rossana Conte from the University of Florence.
