Coding Girsl Tour: Rethink in Cagliari

Artificial intelligence & design thinking at the service of the territory

The Coding Girls tour stops in Cagliari. This programme is designed to help students freely orient themselves in their studies and in the professions of the future, training in STEAM disciplines.

The event is at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Cagliari with the hackathon ‘Rethink. Artificial intelligence & design thinking at the service of the territory’. Around 100 students from secondary schools in Sardinia (Brotzu, Ciusa, Giuia, Paglietti) are involved in a creative challenge: to design activities and services that can generate value for the community, using artificial intelligence as a strategic ally.

The hackathon is the final stage of a nine-hour training course organised as part of Ital.IA Lab, a project by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Microsoft Italia created to spread the opportunities offered by generative artificial intelligence and provide the skills needed to use it in a sustainable and inclusive way, with a special focus on women and Southern Italy. The programme, implemented in Campania and Sardinia, involved over 600 students, 19 schools and 15 young tutors including master's degree students, doctoral candidates and PhD students from the University of Salerno and Cagliari.

In addition to training and competition, the project offers opportunities for discussion with role models, creating an important occasion for orientation and inspiration for the participants, with the aim of promoting more equal access to STEM careers.
