The Volterra Team from San Donà di Piave win the Rescue Category
“The sky is blue over Bordeaux!” exclaims Prof. Fabrizio Vendramin enthusiastically. He is the IT mentor and coach of the team that was selected at RomeCup 2023 and just won the World Robotics Championships in Bordeaux, France (RoboCup, July 4-10) in the Rescue Simulation Category. Team members Alin Odobescu and Michele Tesser, just graduated from the Vito Volterra School in San Donà di Piave (Venice), directed by Erminia Bosnia. Prof. Mirco Segatello was their electronic technology mentor, while Diego Chinellato provided support with machine vision and artificial intelligence.
The objective of the Rescue Simulation competitions is to encourage research and development on the rescue of humans in structures damaged by earthquakes, fires, accidents, etc. The teams have to develop and programme strategies so that independent robots can make their way through disaster areas and salvage objects and lives, both in real and virtual worlds.
Jointly with the teams from Portugal and Taiwan, Alin Odobescu and Michele Tesser won the world title in the Rescue Simulation Super Team category.
In the photo above, sent to us by Prof. Fabrizio Vendramin, besides Alin and Michele (on the left), there also are Denis Kosumovic and Davide Rorato, two other students from the school who participated in the Rescue Maze category, placing fourth and winning the “Technological Innovation Award.”
