Trust aWARE Research

A research phase is currently underway for European Project TRUST aWARE - Enhancing Digital Security, Privacy and TRUST in softWARE to understand how citizens use devices and the Internet, what measures they adopt to safeguard their privacy, what knowledge they have about risk and their main educational requirements. The objective of the project is to provide a reference framework concerning IT security and digital privacy (S&P), co-designing courses and integrated tools, together with citizens, to identify, control, analyse, prevent and mitigate the impact of threats associated with digital activities.

In the countries of project partners (Spain, Romania, France and Italy), the research addresses a range of targets (youth, adults and elders) in small discussion groups with a particular methodology: interviews as a conversation.

Research is based on a qualitative approach and an anthropological methodological outlook. It begins with a bibliographical study to obtain an initial understanding of the context in which the research query is taking place. This approach allows researchers to extend their vision and overcome possible preconceptions. Based on this revision, the main concepts that must be addressed are defined and then defined through variables and indicators. In this phase, guidelines are also defined for the interviews and subsequent encoding of results. The interviews are not individual but take place as small group conversations to also obtain collective representation of concepts and the structures developed around the research objects.

The actions implemented by the TRUST aWARE partnership aim to minimize the impact of IT threats by making users more responsible, promoting collective awareness and encouraging reliable digital products that preserve S&P in conformity with current regulations.
