Today, November 25, is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, an annual day dedicated to this issue by the United Nations with Resolution N. 54/134 of December 17, 1999. In the resolution, the term “violence” adopts its full significance: “one of the crucial social mechanisms by which women are forced into a subordinate position respect to men.” Moreover, violence includes continued inequality, discrimination and vulnerability, as well as everything driven by commonplaces and gender stereotypes.

Today also marks the beginning of sixteen days of activism against gender-based violence that will culminate on the Human Rights Day on December 10. Sixteen days that we will mark with webinars for Coding Girls, a programme that raises the awareness of new generations of women to the urgency of achieving gender equality.

On Monday, November 30, European Project Gender Equality Matters will present the didactic material and MOOC developed for schools. The project is financed by the EU Rights, Equality and Citizenship (REC) Programme [register: GotoWebinar].

The primary and secondary school textbooks were developed by Dublin City University, Fondazione Mondo Digitale, KMOP Social Action and Innovation Centre and the University of Murcia Group of Research in Educational Technology.

A special thanks goes to all the schools and teachers in Italy, coordinated by Eleonora Curatola (FMD) that tested the courses through educational and awareness-raising activities on gender equality to contrast stereotypes, discrimination, bullying and gender violence.

The material, which will soon be available on the websites of the Gender Equality Matters Project and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, represents a precious tool to work towards gender equality. Project Gender Equality Matters is coordinated, in Italy, by Project Manager Annaleda Mazzucato [@AnnaledaM].
