RoboCup Junior: further recognition for Italian schools.
At RoboCup 2024 (Eindhoven, July 17-21), Team MegaHertz from the Lorenzo Cobianchi School in Verbania competed in the Soccer Open Category, playing eight rounds. They won four, drew in one, and lost three. They did not reach the podium, but that hardly matters. The challenges of the robotics world championship are not only played on the soccer field, there also are a series of other awards that are presented to enhance the work of the teams, including the design process and technical choices. Giuliano Mariniello, Pietro Cova, Luca Colombo, Stefano Giordani and Daniel Vellone, who just completed the fourth year of the electronics curriculum, won the prestigious “Outstanding Design Award.”
“We are very happy,” says professor and mentor Raimondo Sgrò who coordinates the team. “It is a nice technical award,” which underlines the value of the team in individual and collaborative challenges and in technical tests. At RoboCup Junior, “certifications” or special awards serve to identify the best teams from which to draw lessons for future seasons. They are awarded only if the teams meet the qualification standards established in the various editions.
The Outstanding Design Award is presented to teams that demonstrate outstanding innovation, ingenuity, originality, and creativity in their robot design and overall effectiveness in the context of the competition challenges. The selection criteria consider several factors in the design of the robot, such as the use of advanced technologies or innovative approaches, original and creative ideas, quality of performance in competitions, etc. The aim is to encourage students to experiment and think outside the box.
Compliments to Team MegaHertz!
