Success in Cremona

Grandparents on the Internet has been a great success in Cremona.

The Fondazione Mondo Digitale has promoted GOI in Cremona in collaboration with the Cremona FNP-CISL (National Pensioner Federation – CISL) and the Istituto Tecnico “Beltrami”. The initiative also received the patrongage of the Municipality of Cremona.

A ceremony was organized at the end of the course to deliver the certificates to the elder students and student tutors. The ceremony, which took place in the Sala dei Quadri of the Cremona Town Hall, was officiated by Mayor Oreste Perri, Educational Policies Councillor Jane Alquati, Social Policies Councillor Luigi Amore and Technological Development Councillor Maria Vittoria Ceraso. Adelio Maffezzoni, Headmaster of the Istituto Tecnico “Beltrami” was also present at the ceremony.

The Cremona Municipality provided not only patronage for the initiative and the presentation of the certificates, but also provided the prestigious venue in the town hall where a concert was held with the famous “Vesuvius” Viokin made by Antonio Stradivari in 1727 played by Andrea Mosconi. Mayor Oreste Perri explained that this was one of the best ways to express the great value of this educational project and its innovative methodology that allowed young students to tutor elders on the use of new communication technology. The mayor pointed out that the project provided an excellent opportunity for the two generations to exchange experiences, because there is no end to learning. “Students gave their very best in this initiative, stimulated by the novelty and the changes that schools are trying to implement,” explained Headmaster Adelio Maffezzoni.

Prof. Daniela Bergamaschi, the first to receive her certificate, was applauded for her commitment and ability to motivate her students. Then, certificates were presented to the elderly students and their young tutors who grew very close during the course.

The Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, Mirta Michilli, sent the following message to the ceremony: “We are very proud of this excellent edition of Grandparents on the Internet. It is always a pleasure to see the intergenerational model that the Fondazione Mondo Digitale promotes in 18 Italian regions and 8 European countries, implemented locally with specific and unique peculiarities. The FMD has been working for over ten years to promote an inclusive knowledge society. This initiative promotes the meeting and exchange of information amongst generations. Sharing knowledge is pivotal to the strong educational value of the project and helps the young tutors develop the competences necessary for life in the 21st Century.”
