Our virtual adventure continues amongst the schools participating in the special edition of Safer Internet Day, promoted by Microsoft and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in collaboration with the Italian Postal Police to [see new Safer Internet Day 2016]. Today, we travel to IIS G. Marconi in Campobasso, where three first year classes (B, D and F) are working on the project.
Notwithstanding their young age, the students are addressing important issues, including identity theft, and producing fact sheets with good advice. Here, for example, is their advice on hacking:
- “Amateurs hack systems. Professionals hack people.” Hacking is a phenomenon that now addresses all sorts of devices worldwide. You need to protect yourself with a password, an antivirus or any other type of safety programme. Hacking especially involves servers with sensitive data, such as those of: hospitals, banks, schools, public offices, etc. There are two types of hacking: ludic (with a personal objective) and for-profit hacking that aims to damage things or people. Always steer clear of sites that you are not sure about and if you notice anything strange report it to the postal police.
- “Do not accept friends on social networks, if you don’t really know them” … they could steal your data or hurt you!
- “Beware of fake sites” … There are false on-line shopping sites that look real, but are not! Please be careful when you purchase on-line!
Here are some of the fact sheets developed by the students with slogans and images:
In the video, the students work on a report to inform citizens on how to safely use the Internet.
