Virtual Taekwondo arrives at RomeCup 2025

For the first time, the Italian Taekwondo Federation (Fita) is participating in RomeCup 2025 with an exhibition space entirely dedicated to Virtual Taekwondo, the innovative digital version of the discipline that combines sport, technology and gaming.

In the space curated by Cristina Pescante, Fita's Marketing & Esports Manager, and Daniele Vigo, a qualified Fita coach, Taekwondo master and 4th Dan black belt, and coordinator of the Fab Lab of the Palestra dell'Innovazione, young people have the opportunity to discover and try out this new training and competition method for themselves, which uses motion sensors and immersive virtual environments.

Activities on the programme

During the RomeCup days it will be possible to:

  • try out Virtual Taekwondo in an interactive demo area, where participants can try their hand at virtual combat using VR headsets, sensors and joysticks
  • attend demonstrations by athletes from the Italian Taekwondo National Team, who will show how technique and technology can be integrated into a new sporting experience
  • meet the FITA team to learn more about the project and discover the opportunities that Virtual Taekwondo offers, not only for sport, but also for education and inclusion.
The technology behind Virtual Taekwondo

To make this immersive experience possible, Virtual Taekwondo uses:

  • Pico VR visors
  • Axis tracking motion sensors
  • Pico joysticks
  • A computer and a 60’ monitor to display the fights in real time

A real virtual gym, where body, movement and technology come together to create a new way of experiencing sport.
