The auditorium was filled to the brim to celebrate the conclusion of the pilot project promoting the digital literacy of over-sixties in the area of Viterbo. Six school were involved in this initiative and were present with their student tutors, coordinating teachers and elderly alumni.
The headmaster of IIS Orioli, Luigi Valente inaugurated the day. He addressed the elders with great pride: “You represent our history. Our students have accompanied you on this technological journey and you have provided them with tradition and life skills.”
All of the participating schools have finished the courses and received the certificate of participation from Viterbo Councillor Paolo Bianchini who defined the initiative as “a true success, a long, important course that has imparted the basics of digital literacy to the elders and has allowed the students to experiment with teaching. Providing this opportunity has been fantastic.”
Professor Marcella Porretti, who coordinated the project at IIS Orioli, introduced the protagonists of the event together with Ana Lain (FMD) and explained why the school decided to participate in this initiative: “We are always enthusiastic about participating in project networks, notwithstanding the many difficulties that may arise. One of our initial problems was finding participants, while in the end we actually had to select students. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to grow up and become more responsible.”
These are just a few of the many opinions expressed during the course of the day by teachers, student tutors and elder students, who spoke about their experiences and results.
