Today, five classes from three schools will be attending range of labs at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym.

 

Three classes, chaperoned by four teachers, are from the Istituto comprensivo in Castel Frentano, a small municipality in the Province of Chieti. In total, 47 students from year six of the first-degree secondary school who will attend coding labs.

 

The first group will work with Scratch, a free programming language developed by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group of the MIT Media Lab. Scratch allows students to create fun interactive stories, games and animations that can be shared on the web. The group will be coached by Giorgia Di Tommaso, 24, one of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale’s first Coding Girls.

 

The second group will work with Ozobot, a small robot that responds to over one thousand commands. This group will be coached by Roberto Dessì, 21, a computer engineering student at the Rome Sapienza University.

 

The Fab Lab will welcome 22 students from the Istituto comprensivo Via Giuseppe Messina in Rome and their teachers Paolo Aghemo and Carla Vergine. Coach Mauro Del Santo will hold a fun lab on emotive robots.

 

The Robotics Centre will host designers from IIS Pacinotti-Archimede to continue programming their explorer robot with the help of Riccardo D’Aquino, 19, a successful participant in a number of international competitions [see news, in Italian: Costruire, programmare e testare].

 

All of the participating schools are members of the National Network of Phyrtual Innovation Gyms launched by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the support of the Italian Ministry of University, Education and Research.
