School as a Broadcaster

The Agenda digitale magazine, on the Scuola Digitale Channel, hosts a new contribution by FMD Director General Mirta Michilli, who provides an idea to promote the role of schools as “broadcasters,” especially in emergency situations.

[...] “We have over eight million students and one million teachers. Every day, schools communicate with students, families, the educational community … It never dips below a 50% share. It communicates daily with half of the Italian population, thirty million people. So, why not use schools as broadcasters for health communication against the infodemic? When we think of investing in school, we refer to resources, funds for construction work, teachers, recovery, etc. How often do we actually stop and reflect on the role of schools, on their function to drive a country’s development?” [...]

“We believe that some of our crucial challenges, such as digital transformation, can be faced in an inclusive and sustainable manner, involving schools as a public broadcaster. In order to fight the infodemic, we need the knowledge antibodies that schools can produce.”
