Marta Lagomarsino receives award at the international manufacturing industry fair
From RomeCup 2023 to national awards for industrial innovation. Marta Lagomarsino, winner of the first edition of the Advancing Technology for Humanity. Most promising researcher in Robotics & AI award, organised by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in collaboration with the University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome, post-doc researcher at the Human-Robot Interfaces and Interaction laboratory of the Italian Institute of Technology, received the AI and Robotics Mention of the Solution Award - Robotics Innovation Prize 2025 at Mecspe, the main Italian trade fair dedicated to the manufacturing industry (Bologna, 5-7 March 2025).
The award recognises the scientific and applicative value of the Pro-Mind project, a system that revolutionises the way in which robots collaborate with humans in factories. The framework, recently published in the international journal IEEE Transactions on Robotics, allows cobots to adapt movements and distances in real time, reducing the cognitive stress of operators and improving safety and productivity at the same time.
This innovation stems from a simple idea that has not yet been explored in depth: mental fatigue and cognitive load also affect workers' well-being and the quality of their work. Pro-Mind integrates non-invasive sensors and intelligent algorithms to monitor the attention and psychophysical state of operators and adjust the behaviour of robots accordingly, creating more sustainable, safe and people-friendly work environments.
The method was tested directly in a company in the automotive sector, demonstrating that it is possible to find a balance between production efficiency and quality of working life.
Marta Lagomarsino thus continues her research and innovation journey after the important recognition she received at the RomeCup, the event that every year brings together students, researchers and companies to build the future of artificial intelligence and robotics together.
The third edition of the Most Promising Researcher in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence award, promoted with the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma and the Università degli Studi Roma Tre as part of the RomeCup 2025, received almost 300 applications from all over Italy, confirming the growing interest of the scientific community in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence. The 10 finalists will have the opportunity to present their work during the official ceremony, which will be held on 8 May 2025 in the Esedra Hall of the Capitoline Museums. The event is moderated by the journalist Massimo Sideri, correspondent and columnist for the daily newspaper Corriere della Sera, and is streamed on the RCS MediaGroup platforms [see the news Research Award 2025, with almost 300 applications under consideration].
