The Antweight Tactical Tournament arrives at the Innovation Gym

A new arena, 16 robots ready to compete and a growing community of makers. Next Saturday, 22 November, in the Agorà space of the Palestra dell'Innovazione, we will host Stagione Zero. Torneo Tattico, the monthly robot combat event promoted by the amateur sports association I Robottari, the first Italian organisation dedicated to promoting this technological and spectacular sport.

The competition is reserved for robots in the 150-gram Antweight Tactical category (with a provisional bonus of up to 175 g) and is also open to newcomers: those who do not have a robot can rent one on site and become a member of the association to participate.

The initiative stems from the desire to create a new meeting place for enthusiasts, students, makers and curious minds, enhancing the educational dimension of robot combat. Building, testing and perfecting a robot means putting technical, design and creative skills to the test, but also team spirit, problem-solving skills and a passion for innovation.

The event also represents a first step towards possible future collaborations: courses on robot construction, activities dedicated to the Fab Lab and new forms of participation in view of the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. An opportunity to expand the local community and bring new people closer to the culture of innovation.

Robot Combat is an international sport, deeply rooted in the United States and the United Kingdom and now widespread in many countries. Just like in boxing, there are different categories based on the weight of the robots. The best-known television formats - Robot Wars and BattleBots - have made the heavyweight categories famous, with robots weighing over 100 kilos. To promote the discipline in Italy, the association has chosen to start with Antweight, the 150-gram “ant weights” already widely practised across the Channel: compact, accessible to build and perfect for introducing new makers to this special combination of technique, creativity and competition.
