NONNET is Sustainable

NONNET: digital urban vegetable gardens promoted by Legambiente Campania and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale is a regional awareness raising and environmental education plan for students and pensioners implemented via PCs and urban vegetable gardens.

The initiative has been earmarked by GELSO – Gestione locale per la sostenibilità ambientale (Local Management for Environmental Sustainability, an Ispra Project) as a good Italian practice for sustainable development concerning equilibrium between environmental protection and economic development.

These objectives represent some of the epocal challenges that face modern society as indicated by Agenda 21, the United Nations document on principles, objectives, strategies and initiatives to support sustainable development as a “form of development that satisfies the needs of people without compromising the abilities of the future generations to satisfy their needs.”

What do we mean by a good practice? “An action that can be exported to different realities and that allows a municipality, a community or any local administration to move towards forms of sustainable management at a local level.”
