Our commitment against gender violence. From the global campaign to the “Same for All.”
According to the last report published by the Italian Ministry of the Interior, from the first of January to today, there “have been 269 homicides: 98 of which were women and 84 of whom were killed by family and/or friends; 51 were killed by their partners or former partners.”
The Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is promoted annually on November 25 by the United Nations. In Italy, the Same for All programme has organised meetings in schools to raise the awareness of the younger generations on gender violence. It’s a first step to transform “remembrance days” into true action for change.
The project, which has been developed in collaboration with the Gianni & Origoni Law Firm and Urban Vision, will raise awareness and educate participants on available tools and prevention measures through a multi-dimensional approach. The starting point is to develop a greater awareness on the issues related to this emergency amongst citizens and especially students.
Together with the Assifero, a reference point for institutional philanthropy in Italy, we have also joined the #UNiTE to End Violence against Women global campaign, colouring our communications channels orange for 16 days against gender violence. The campaign will end on December 10, the United Nations’ Human Rights Day.
As part of our organisation welfare measures, we have kicked off a course on personal security awareness with Daniele Vigo, a qualified FITA Coach, and 4th Dan black-belt Taekwondo master. Daniele teaches self-defence in his local gym and will share techniques for greater safety and self-control to our female employees. “Defence in Taekwondo is not only physical, but also moral,” he explains. "It begins with self-respect and respect for others to promote a culture of peace and responsibility.”
An emblematic phrase, pronounced by one of our colleagues, inspired this initiative: “It would be better if we didn’t have to defend ourselves, but we still need to do so.” And this bitter reflection led to the idea to provide collaborators, especially women, with the tools necessary to increase their security and promote a greater personal awareness.
