The project is based on an innovative didactic approach based on active learning and a new lifestyle in which all the involved actors (youth, elders, professors, administrators, communities and institutions) participate. This is how Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy at the University of Edinburgh inaugurated the round table “The Knowledge Volunteers” (TKV)European project partners. The Fondazione Mondo Digitale is the lead partner.
Carlo Lamprecht, former President of the Geneva Government, was also present. The event was held in Geneva, Switzerland on 21 September 2012, the day following the project meeting. “It’s not only a beautiful, but also a necessary initiative,” Lamprecht explained. “Elders are afraid of new technology, but by involving youth, they can participate in society and learn new things.”
Francois Ledoux, Corporate Affairs Manager for the Intel Corporation points out that “The Knowledge Volunteers project is part of the volunteering activities that Intel promotes around the world; technology is an excellent means to raise a bridge between generations.”
This is why Intel has decided to back the Knowledge Volunteers Programme, to bridge the gap between generations, concludes Francesca Paolini, Marketing Development Manager for Intel Italy and Switzerland.
“The event was a great success,” declared Annaleda Mazzucato, TKV Project Manager for the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. “We met with our European partners and the meeting was a perfect opportunity to renew our long-term collaboration plans and goals.”
A few curiosities:

Romania - Societatea Romana Pentru Educatie Permanenta (SREP): the grandparents are enthusiastic about their course; in fact, many are already paying their bills on-line and no longer “hate” computers and new technology.
Spain - Foundaciòn Para el Desarollo Infotecnologico de Empresas (Fundetec): many elders and tutors have already completed the first part of their courses; the advanced level will begin in October.
