The Neuronal Helmet

Matteo Cese (19) studied Economics in Rome and has recently discovered the Officina – New Jobs Workshop.

“This place is unique in Italy. I learned about virtual and augmented reality and how to use them. My project is to improve the use of the neuronal helmet in external environments. EEG electroencephalography technology transforms the brain’s electrical signals into instructions for external devices such as wheelchairs. I would like to create an EEG product and present it to investors via crowdfunding.”

In an interview with Redattore Sociale journalist Elena Filicori, Matteo explained: “It’s a complex process, but it is easy to use and can be fundamental to improve quality of life. Neuroscience is making great advances in this field and will surely usher in the future. Experimenting can mean failing, but it still indicates the road ahead, and working with individuals from different backgrounds is very stimulating.”

At the Officina – New Jobs Workshop, Matteo met with Jacquelline Fuller, Director of Google.org, and demoed his idea in the Immersive Lab.

Google.org has published a 20 million dollar global call for innovations targeting disabled individuals.

The Officina – New Jobs Workshop is a project conceived by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Google to promote digital skills and implement professional training and orientation activities for 10,000 young men and women currently looking for a job. The initiative has been organised with the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the collaboration of the Ministry of Education, University and Research, the Regione Lazio and Roma Capitale.
