Men and Robots at Work

Marta Lagomarsino, winner of the RomeCup Award 2023, has completed her research doctorate.

When we think of automated workplaces as part of Industry 4.0, we imagine collaborative robots sharing space with workers, but we struggle to conceive of true interaction. The research conducted by Marta Lagomarsino (28 years old from Genoa) explores the socio-physical interaction between humans and robots to improve the productivity, health, and well-being of workers.

We met Marta last year, when she won the first edition of the Advancing Technology for Humanity - Most Promising Researcher in Robotics & AI, announced in collaboration with the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome (UCBM). Now, Marta has completed her PhD, obtaining a diploma with honours from the Department of Electronic Information and Bioengineering of the Polytechnic of Milan in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Technology. In December, she presented her thesis entitled "Innovative Models for Cognitive Load Assessment and Mitigation through Personalized Robot Intervention."

Marta continues her research work at the Human-Robot Interfaces and Interaction (HRI²) Lab of the Italian Institute of Technology.
