When we codesigned the various actions of Project OpenSPACE in the suburbs of four metropolitan cities, we certainly did not imagine that we would have to face a health emergency...
However, as Tullio De Mauro taught us, “a revolutionary school is one that solves new problems.” And with OpenSpace we are building “revolutionary” educational communities.
During the course of the week, students in year three at the Madre Teresa di Calcutta hub school in the suburbs of Milan explored tools for immersive reality. This is in the eastern suburbs of the city, in the Forlanini, Ponte Lambro and Rogoredo neighbourhoods.
“I have seen happy young men and women as I haven’t in a long time!” says a school professor in a WhatsApp message. “It has been an encouraging morning, a true breath of fresh air …”
Just a few words in a thirty-second message allow us to understand how devastating the impact of the pandemic was on contexts that were already tried by the ongoing crisis and growing educational poverty. And this allows us to understand the strength, courage and passion of our teachers.
Project "OpenSPACE – Active Participation Spaces for the Educational Community" allows selected by Con i Bambini as part of the Fund to contrast the educational poverty of minors (Adolescence Call), is a four-year project to make communities inclusive and responsible for promoting the educational and cultural growth, as well as to empower pre-adolescents and adolescents. The project is implemented in suburban areas of Bari, Milan, Palermo and Reggio Calabria.
