The fun notes played by the BlindSmoke Suburban Orchestra and a moving message sent by Minister Cécile Kyenge: that’s how the “I Am There” World Refugee Day 2013 promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale began. Then, came to solidarity football match between Roman students and Centro Enea guests. The event was held on June 20, 2013 at the Centro sportivo Santa Maria di Roma.

8 sponsors, 1 media partner, 7 Roman schools, 20 young refugees, 4 associations brought the exhibition area to life. Here is the press release launching the initiative.

Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy at the University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale inaugurated the day.

“In a minute a family can lose everything is the message that the UNHCR used to raise awareness about this day. The Fondazione Mondo Digitale strives to create a great family around this event by building a network that grows year by year.”

Sabrina Alfonsi, President of Rome District I, also sent a message:

“Initiatives such as this one, organized by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale for World Refugee Day, are amongst the most important. These are opportunities to be together and get to know each other, to promote inclusion through technological innovation, an aspect in which we are unfortunately lagging behind. The values that inspire today’s event – solidarity, participation and equal opportunities – are those that unite us and represent our common local activities.”

Professor Molina kicked off the three-way soccer tournament. Here are the results of the three matches:

- Santa Maria Visnova vs Esquilino 1 - 1
- Santa Maria Visnova vs Polisportiva Quadraro Cinecittà 3 - 1
- Esquilino vs Polisportiva Quadraro Cinecittà 0 - 2

All the young players received medals and certificates from Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.

The solidarity match between young refugees and Roman students ended with a tie.

This intense event will be the subject of a video and photo gallery that will soon be on-line.
