A2 is the level of Italian that foreign citizens must attempt to master. A4 is the sheet of paper used by the students to prepare the didactic material. Family Format is the intergenerational learning model promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale: students, coordinated by teachers, instruct adults based on their true needs and skills.

“We began working with you right after the earthquake to bring new technology to the classes that had most difficulties in accessing it, to the elderly and now to immigrant citizens. We want to support their integration through new technologies and help them learn our language, culture and ways of life. For the first time, it’s the students who will create and teach the didactic contents. This will help you build important life skills,” explains Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.

Also present at the ceremony were: Deputy Prefect of L’Aquila, Maria Cristina Di Stefano, Headmaster Lucia Di Giulio and Federico Cifani representing the Comunità Montana Sirentina.

“The project was evaluated very positively as it provides answers to local needs and policies.  It is truly innovative and may be considered a good practice,” declared Maria Cristina Di Stefano.

The activities will begin with the parents of students and then reach out to the entire municipality and neighboring ones (reaching the Mountain Community of Sirentina); Particular attention will be paid to all the foreign families that have been most isolated since the 2009 earthquake.

The planned activities include an intercultural blog to promote community dialogue, videoconferences and events for all residents, subject specific meetings at school and mobile Internet points with laptops connected to the Internet to provide practical on-line assistance. The students will become trainers and peace ambassadors for social cohesion amongst the foreign communities and their new community.
