Today, the fourth and final on-site inspection will be held in Reggio Calabria for Project OpenSPACE at the Istituto comprensivo Bernardino Telesio, directed by Marisa Maisano.
The Istituto Telesio is located in the suburbs, in a difficult area that presents an entire range of critical issues that “block its development and the opening of new commercial, agricultural and service activities, thereby not allowing local resources to be exploited and giving rise to illegal activities.” The area is increasingly becoming populated by families of non-Europeans with problematic social issues; it also hosts one of the city’s largest Roma camps. In fact, the percentage of young men and women who are at risk of deviance and abandoning school is significantly high [from the school’s Three-Year Academic Plan].
The inspection will be carried out by school representatives, the local focal point and partner organisations Fondazione Mondo Digitale, Arteteca and MCA, which will be responsible for designing and renovating the school facilities and learning areas.
In particular:
- Mario Cucinella Architects (MCA) – facility renovation;
- Arteteca – artistic regeneration of facilities;
- Fondazione Mondo Digitale – design, development, kick off and management of the Phyrtual Innovation Gym with Matteo Viscogliosi, designer, maker and Coordinator of the Digital Manufacturing Lab at the FMD Phyrtual Innovation Gym. Project Manager Ilaria Graziano, who has participated in all the phases of shared development for OpenSPACE follows the works remotely.
The first part of the day was dedicated to the presentation, brainstorming and an exchange of ideas amongst participants, even to identify common intervention strategies and synergies. Then, the school building and the areas that will host the activities will be presented. Following the lunch break, focus sessions will be held with individual partners to analyse, share and validate the operational proposals, including the one for the development of the Phyrtual Innovation Gym.
Project OpenSPACE, selected by Con i Bambini as part of the Fund for contrasting the educational poverty of minors, is a four-year project that aims to make communities more inclusive and responsible in order to promote educational and cultural growth, as well as the empowerment of pre-adolescents and adolescents. The project is implemented in suburban areas of Bari, Milan, Palermo and Reggio Calabria.
