The meeting, organized by the Fondazione Roma Mediterraneo and the Investire in Cultura Association, will be held at the Chamber of Deputies in Rome (Palazzo San Macuto, via del Seminario 76). The event will be held on 17 December 2012 and is based on the integration of second immigrant generations.
During the course of the next decade, statistical studies reveal that more than a million young individuals could acquire Italian citizenship. These new citizens will have rights and duties, but also cultural identity issues, as they will have grown up in families that may be assimilated to cultural prisons that conserve the traditions and language of their homeland, often living in complete isolation – if not hostility – with the local context.
School is central to the integration of immigrant children. It can ensure their socialization from kindergarten to university and transform them into true citizens.
Teachers and experts will address this issue and suggest new strategies for national and regional institutions.
Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy at the University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale will illustrate the work of the Foundation to promote the social and digital inclusion of foreign students.
In 2010, the FMD received an award from the Fondazione Roma for its activities aimed to integrate immigrants and refugees.
