We are proud to share a new milestone achieved by Mihai Drăgușanu, winner of the second edition of the Research Award and now author of a book published by Springer. Wearable Robotic Devices for Upper Limb Post-stroke Rehabilitation.
The volume documents an extensive research project in which several devices for rehabilitation, assistance and haptic applications were developed. The common thread is the user-centred approach adopted in all stages of design and development, and the use of soft robotics solutions to ensure safe and comfortable interaction with the user. The text includes detailed information on the design, practical application and evaluation of various assistive devices for the upper limb, while also providing an up-to-date guide for tackling future interdisciplinary research projects.
Led by Prof. Monica Malvezzi (University of Siena), with the support of SIRSLab and Prof. Domenico Prattichizzo (University of Siena / Italian Institute of Technology), Mihai has explored innovative robotic solutions for post-stroke neuromotor rehabilitation, with a particular focus on the use of wearable exoskeletons. His research has already led to the prototyping of the so-called “gold suit”, a soft-robotic device for wrist and hand movement recovery.
A significant part of the work on the “gold suit” has recently been accepted for publication in IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L), one of the most important international journals in the field of robotics. This recognition confirms the scientific and practical value of the project.
Mihai shows us how passion, study and a collaborative spirit can shape technologies that tangibly improve people's lives. Congratulations again!
