With Giulia Melissari, activism and community meet. The interview
‘More than a focus on work, I need a focus on life’. This sentence, uttered by a teenager during a workshop, is the starting point for the story of Giulia Melissari, local representative of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in Calabria. Born in 1993, Giulia is a lawyer and trainer who has chosen to remain in her homeland, passionately pursuing innovative educational programmes and civic activism to combat educational poverty, youth hardship and the brain drain. She works closely with schools, families and third sector organisations, promoting a culture of participation and listening, with an approach that combines affective education, digital citizenship and life orientation.
In the interview she gave to the Quotidiano del Sud newspaper for the ‘Quelli della Restanza’ column, Giulia talks with sincerity and determination about her daily commitment in the suburbs and inland areas of Calabria, where change is built one step at a time, together with the young men and women who have the courage to stay.
