This year the focus is “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now.”
Human Rights Day is observed annually around the world on December 10. It commemorates the anniversary of one of the world's most innovative global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This document enshrines the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being, regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
The Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on December 10, 1948, and set out, for the first time, the fundamental human rights to be universally protected. Moreover, these later became the foundation for the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
The declaration, which is available in 577 languages, from Abkhaz to Zulu, makes the UDHR the most translated document worldwide.
This year’s edition will focus on “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” an invitation to recognise the importance and relevance of human rights in our daily lives. We have the opportunity to create change by contrasting hate, correcting false information, and contrasting disinformation.
Today also marks the end of the global #UNiTE to End Violence against Women Campaign that saw us collaborate with Assifero, a reference point for institutional philanthropy in Italy. Over 16 days of activism against gender violence, since November 25, we have coloured our communication channels orange [see news: No Excuse].
