After the success of the digital literacy project pilots for the elderly in the schools of Lombardy, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale has signed a new agreement with Director Claudio Merletti to consolidate its presence in Comoand Varese. This important collaboration, which is now underway also thanks to the efforts of Prof. Luca Piergiovanni, the FMD’s referent for the Grandparents on the Internet Project in Lombardy, confirms once again the didactic and social value of providing courses to over-sixties.
The School Department Director for Como and Varese has defined this initiative as a “direct service that allows grandparents and grandchildren to come face to face … and create an equal relationship between young and elderly, a fuller and more vital relationship than that with a teacher” in a world in which the use of new technologies has become of paramount importance.
Twenty schools and nearly 800 people are already involved in this initiative in the Province of Como, and the new schools from the Province of Varese will join the challenge “to make the areas richer in these essential skills,” explains Director Merletti in a telephone interview with Elisa Amorelli. It’s an important opportunity to expand the project, especially considering that there are nearly 660 thousand residents in Como and 900 thousand in Varese.
All the unique elements of the project have been confirmed: the courses will be held in the school computer labs and each course will last 30 hours with 15 weekly lessons for a maximum of two hours.
Just as central and strategic will be the participation of the schools in the “Everyone on the Internet” Week that will be held in the springtime, after the courses have ended, to promote this project and celebrate the conclusion of the digital school year.
